This beautiful girl is Taja and she is an 11 year old Lhasa Apso. She is looking forward to a wonderful life in a new home to enjoy the best years of her life.
She absolutely loves to go on walks with you and to sit outside enjoying the fresh air, sights and sounds. She knows how to sit, lay, shake and sit up and beg. She is also very vocal and loves to talk to you and let you know how she feels and when she wants something. Mostly food! Taja will do anything for a tasty treat. This baby loves to eat!! She is a tiny bit overweight but with a good walking buddy, there will be no worries there!
She also likes to play. Her favorite game is to chase a ball and bring it back to you although she likes to tease you and make you "work" to get the ball back. Taja is leash trained, house trained, rides very well in the car and loves to be brushed. She is a very sweet baby once she gets to know you VERY WELL, but she is a bit cautious around new people and can get very scared. She also will not let you pick her up or she gets scared and can nip. She has some emotional issues from an obviously bad past. Taja has bitten and is unpredictable. Taja does not do well with children due to past mistreatment by them. She also does not tolerate other dogs very well. Obviously her options for finding a wonderful home are limited. It is a shame that the only family she ever knew dumped her once they had a child, knowing with all of her issues that her future looked bleak. We were the only ones who agreed to take her and try to help her. Taja is altered, UTD on shots, received a dental and is heartworm NEG. 100.00 adoption fee applies, but any donation above our requested fee is greatly appreciated and will go towards the veterinary care of our special needs and long term foster babies.Taja is being fostered in SC.
Update:Feb. 2010 Taja has been in long term foster care with ADR for almost 3 years. She still has fear aggression with people she does not know and can be very aggressive with a recurrent history of biting. Taja will become a permanant foster of ADR.

Mica is a gorgeous, completely snow white Lhasa Apso. He is a senior, 10+ years, but we cannot be certain of his age and have no background history on him. All we know is that he was left to die at a shelter, a tick infested and horribly matted mess. But look at him now...a beautiful and happy boy! He requires twice daily eye ointment(Optimune) and has luxating patellas that may possibly require surgery (two differing veterinary opinions, one says surgery is recommended, one says at his age it is not advised and may not be that helpful). His dry eye is easily kept in check simply by administering very affordable ointment or drops daily. His eyesight is fine. He is scared and timid when initially introduced to strangers. We feel it is a result of an abusive past. That said, let's take a moment to discuss his manners, his disposition. He is simply an angel. Exceptionally well behaved ! He sat like a statue for hours of painful grooming. He is such a little gentleman in the house. Very quiet and reserved. Very well leash trained. Gets along wonderfully with cats and other dogs. He is housetrained. He really is an extremely polite boy. He is pure love. He is altered, UTD, HW negative and on all preventatives. Mica is being fostered in SC. Update November 3: Micah is doing well in his foster home. He has been in rescue for a very long time and now thinks of it as his home :) He has developed cataracts since the last posting which was well over a year ago. He also is having issues resulting from his luxating patellas which may indeed need surgery as he is experiencing some discomfort. At this point we are waiting to see as at his age it isn't great to put him through such extensive, painful surgery. We are also hesitant to adopt him out at this point since he is so comfortable in his long term foster home unless the adopter can guarantee they would be able to properly care for him and provide the extensive and expensive medical care he may require in the future.

Stacy is a 12 year old Yorkie. She was taken to a shelter by her owner who indicated that she was surrendering her because of Stacy's health problems, however no problems were given to shelter workers when she was asked to elaborate. We do know Stacy has a very bad heart murmur which most likely has become worse with age. She also has some incontinence problems. She was never spayed and at her age and with her heart murmur it might not be feasible. Regardless, she will need to remain in foster care for a few weeks as we evaluate any possible health issues. All of that out of the way, let's discuss this beautiful girl. She weighs 8 lbs and her foster mom says that she looks like a little fox with her pointy little nose with white hairs framing her muzzle. Stacy had many mats in her long coat but we were able to brush them out with lots of patience and great detangling products and now she looks beautiful. However she is camera shy and it is difficult to get photos of her or to get her to look at the camera! She is a sweet girl, but somewhat jealous and nippy towards other animals who go near "her mommy", whoever that may be at the moment. She is not house trained and has some problems with incontinence. We will rule out any medical reasons for this and if there is a medical reason, it will be treated. For now Stacy will remain in foster care as she is evaluated and her issues addressed. We will update her information periodically. UPDATE FEBRUARY 23: Stacy is a "biter". Most of it is the end result of having no boundries set in her life and a bad minor habit of nipping occassionally has resulted in a very serious problem with aggressive biting. Stacy will most likely become a permanent foster of Asian Dog Rescue as we feel she is just not adoptable. Stacy is being fostered in MO. Update: Feb. 10, 2010: Stacy has been in our foster care for over a year and still has has a tendency to bite and we have deemed her unadoptable at this point. Like the other babies with bite.aggression histories, she will remain in long term foster care with ADR as we provide for all of her physical and financial needs. We do this for all of our dogs in long term, permanant care. We do not euthanize the aggressive, unadoptable babies, we offer them a safe haven with love and the best of care for the rest of their lives should they never become adoptable.

Makino is an adorable Pekingese. He was rescued from a shelter after he was "out of time", with no hope, until a very nice shelter volunteer asked for our help. This baby is really sweet with loads of personality and he gives lots of tail wags. He will let out that precious peekoneezer growl when he is getting groomed in certain areas by the clipper but this little baby is just sassing. It is actually quite endearing. Guess it is a common language all Peke lovers understand. :) His age is hard to determine, he is approximately 8-10 years old. He needs a dental very badly and will undoubtedly lose some back teeth even though his front teeth look very good. No worries though, who needs all of those nasty teeth anyway?!! He is too cute for words and has wonderful years left to share with his special person. This darling winter lap warmer and TV viewing buddy is just waiting for the perfect home so he can share his abundant love and gratitude. He will be neutered, brought UTD on his shots, be heartworm tested and receive an extensive dental. He also has some eye issues although we do not know what they are yet. He has some cloudiness, but seems to see fine. We will have to get him opthalmic care and see what we can do to address that issue. We do need loving sponsors for this baby as Makino's vetting will be far and above his adoption fee. We want to make sure this darling gets the best possible care. If you can not adopt this precious angel, won't you please help us with his expenses? UPDATE: Makino had a full makeover and complete vetting. First of all, his eye sight is fine and it was determined to simply be "dry eye" in one eye which is very easily kept in check by eye gel or drops. His teeth were in relatively good shape and he only needed 4 teeth pulled so he has maintained most of his pearly whites! He also had X-rays, a complete blood panel done and had his glucose levels checked. All checked out normal. His only issue seems to be incontinence due to his age. He is on very reasonably priced medication and wears a male diaper so there are no issues with this. He loves laying in the sun, enjoying a soft breeze on a nice day, his food, belly scratches and lots of hugs. He deserves a wonderful, loving home and more in his senior years. He is very easy to care for and is a wonderful companion. His adoption fee is 50.00. Makino is being fostered in MO.

Shai-Ling is a hairless, 5 lb. Chinese Crested. We are unsure of her age but we are estimating her to be around 10 years old. She is a sweet girl most of the time but she can be somewhat aggressive and unpredictable on occassion. For that reason we'd like to work with her for a while so she can be rehabilitated and put up for adoption in the future. Shai-Ling is being fostered in MO. Update: Feb. Shai-Ling has become a very happy girl in her foster home. However she still can be unpredictable at times, especially with people that she doesn't know. Due to her age and behavioral issues she most likely become a permanant foster of ADR.
