Noelle is an 18 year old female Cockatoo that was born on Christmas Day according to her previous owner, hence her name Noelle. This is a very sweet bird however she is a typical Cockatoo. They bond with one person and this beautiful girl is no different. Noelle's feathers are in excellent condition. She is extremely affectionate, loving and personable to her person. She sings "la la la la la", says "hi" in the most precious soft voice and barks like a dog. She also says a few other things occassionally and says "thank you" in a soft, sweet voice. All Cockatoos are one person birds, this is just their nature, so if you want a bird that will love kids, all members of the family etc., a Cockatoo is not the right choice for you. If you are a single person who wants a most fabulous, beautiful, fun friend like no other, that will love you and crave your companionship, Noelle is the perfect bird for you. She loves being out of her cage, standing on her stand, even snuggling on the couch with you. Yes, Noelle is definitely a couch potato!! She has a really sweet personality but is a typical Cockatoo and you must know, love and understand this species of Parrot. If you are familiar with Cockatoos, are committed to giving her a forever home and feel Noelle is the right feathered friend for you, please submit an application. Although our adoption application is geared towards dogs as we are not a bird rescue per se, please adjust your answers accordingly, providing answers to most questions, including your pet ownership history, vet info and parrot experience, if any. Her adoption fee is 400.00 which includes large cage. Please note: All Parrots, even very sweet ones can be unpredictable and bite if provoked, handled when they don't want to be, etc. We cannot guarantee Noelle's behavior nor any other animal's behavior, nor can anyone ever do so, as these are animals that have minds of their own. How they may act in our care can vary in a different setting. We do know that while in our care, Noelle is very sweet and we see no signs of behavioral issues, just typical Cockatoo behavior. However she can get jealous of other people if she is with her person and we feel a single person home with no children would be perfect for her. She would have much to offer someone in terms of companionship, and your home would definitely have a welcoming and loving friend who would always be there for you and fill your home with fun and companionship, and yes, some noise too! However, Noelle is relatively quiet unless she wants to get out of her cage and spend some time with her best friend. Please see her video below(takes time to load). Noelle is being fostered in eastern TN. Update: February 2010: Noelle is still in rehabilitation. She does not like most females and can be jealous and aggressive towards anyone she doesn't know and who goes near her "person". Noelle bonds to one person and if out of her cage, if anyone goes near that person(human or animal), she will attack them. Cockatoos must be out of their cage for many hours a day to be happy so this can be problematic. At this time we feel Noelle is not adoptable and she remains in long term foster care with ADR.
Jenna is a 10 year old Shih Tzu. She was surrendered to the shelter by her owner who was going into an assisted living facility. She is a beautiful charcoal and white angel who was very matted when rescued but we have tried to save as much of her pretty coat as possible. Jenna was very timid and scared and did bite shelter personel however we feel that was just due to her being terrified in that atmosphere. She is ok with other dogs most of the time but can get aggravated with them and become a bit aggressive so we think this darling baby would do best in a home where she is the only princess. She will need to spend some time in foster care so we can evaluate her temperament. We will update her status when she becomes adoptable. This precious angel has been altered, is UTD on shots, HW negative and is on preventatives. 175.00 adoption fee applies, however any donation(tax deductible and a tax receipt is available upon request) above our required fee is greatly appreciated and will go towards the care of the many animals permanently and temporarily fostered in our organization. Jenna is being fostered in GA. Update Feb. 2010 Jenna is doing excellent in her foster home however she can get "nippy" for seemingly no reason so we are hesitant to adopt her out. These problems are somewhat common in these dogs that have had a difficult time in their life. All we can do is to continue to work with them and offer a safe and loving foster home for them with the best of care. At this time Jenna will remain in long term foster care with ADR.
NOT YET AVAILABLE DUE TO EMOTIONAL/AGGRESSION ISSUES
Zhi is 2 years old and weighs 8 lbs. He has a bit of aggression towards *some* other dogs but none towards the dogs he was living with before rescued. However, we feel he would be best in a home without other pets. He also has bitten and has a bit of an "attitude". We feel this can be worked with but he needs some time in foster care to properly assess and address these and other possible "issues". Please check back as we will update his progress and adoption status periodically.150.00 adoption fee when/if he becomes available, however any donation above our required fee is greatly appreciated and will go to the fund for our "special needs" and senior animals permanently and temporarily fostered in our rescue. Zhi is being fostered in GA.
PERMANANT FOSTER OF ADR DUE TO EMOTIONAL/AGGRESSION/HEALTH ISSUES
Saki is an approximately 4 year old, 18 lb. tan Pekingese. She has been in our rescue foster program for a very long time. She was initially found behind a garbage dumpster badly beaten. Her head had many gashes and she almost lost her eyes. She had surgery, recovered like the little survivor she is and has been with us ever since. Unfortunately she developed aggression issues as well as seizures. All of this is understandable considering the extreme abuse she suffered. We still do not feel she is ready for adoption unless we find that one in a million very special home. We are posting her just in case that perfect person is out there. Saki does not do well with other animals, children or men. She also will bite if she is scared or feels threatened, even if it is only in her mind. She also is not housebroken and no matter what we try she will not go outside or on puppy pads. She must wear little panties much of the time. She is on seizure medication as well. She needs a retired person who is home much of the time, preferably only one female with no other pets or grandchildren and very few to no visitors. You must also have a fenced yard and have experience dealing with dogs who have seizures. 50.00 adoption fee when/if she becomes available, however any donation above our required fee is greatly appreciated and will go to the fund for our "special needs" and senior animals permanently and temporarily fostered in our rescue. Saki is being fostered in Eastern, TN. Update: February 20, 2010: Saki has been in foster care for over 3 years and has adjusted very well. She loves her foster mom and due to her "special needs behavioral problems", we feel it would be cruel to take her out of the home she has grown to love and with her foster mom, Laurie who she loves and trusts, so Saki will become another permanant foster of ADR as that is what is in her best interest.
Update: July 29, 2010: Saki is doing very, very well. She still has anti-social behavioral tendancies and will bite strangers if she was able to get near them. However she is happy, content and loving to her foster mom and she gets along well with her canine siblings Ming Ming and Caylei, but still is not fond of any other dogs. She is doing great in ADR long term foster care and will remain there as she is happpy and would not do well in another atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who continue to ask about Saki. We will post periodic updates and photos. New photo below and above.
